New funding announced for Calgary startups

The Calgary startup community received a funding boost from investors today. GE Canada (NYSE: GE), GE Ventures, BDC Capital and Ryerson Futures Inc. announced the ZSC Seed Accelerator Fund during BDC’s Canadian Corporate Innovation Summit. The fund will help companies in Zone Startups Calgary (ZSC), an accelerator that drives growth of startups in the industrial internet of things, cybersecurity and energy sectors, on their paths to commercialization.

Canadian Startup JobBliss aims to help companies build and manage a flexible workforce

JobBliss, a platform that enables companies to manage and find freelance talent, announced that the company has raised a round of angel funding. The funding was provided by a Toronto angel investor, and the round also includes a Smart Start grant from the Ontario Centres of Excellence, an innovation commercialization hub. JobBliss is a female founded tech startup and was a finalist for the Women 2.0 Pitch competition, TechCrunch Disrupt Toronto, and BNN Disruptors Pitch.

Facebook and Regina Chamber of Commerce to host free workshop for Regina businesses

On Monday, January 16, Facebook’s Boost Your Business will take place in Regina, Saskatchewan, a session dedicated to teaching small business owners how to optimize their presence on the world’s largest social network. The event will be co-hosted by the Regina Chamber of Commerce, with special guests Ralph Goodale, MP for Regina-Wascana, and Brent Homan, Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
